Reducing our Footprint – Travel Top Tips

We can all help reduce the region’s Eclogical Footprint (and move to One Planet Living) by changing our travelling arrangements.
According to DEFRA research a combination of smart driving, a shift to walking and cycling for shorter journeys and choosing public transport for medium and longer journeys could produce a CO2 saving of around 750kg/per household/per annum (kg/hh/pa).
But before you consider those Smart Driving techniques why not think about ditching the car completely this week and making the most of National Bike Week, which starts tomorrow. Many councils across the region are planning events to help encourage people out of their cars and on to their bikes this week – for more details check your local council website or the Bike Week website:
SEFS member Chris Corrigan from RSPB regularly cycles from Shoreham to the office in Brighton (depending on external meetings but generally about twice a week) he told me today “it’s a great way to travel, it keeps me fit and I get to watch peregrine falcons en-route”
Generally I walk from home to the SEFS office near Brighton station however, next Thursday I might be tempted on to two wheels by a free breakfast on Hove Seafront!
Drop me a line with your cycling experiences during Bike Week.
